Almond
blossoms in February/March
La
Vall de Laguar has a striking landscape of contrast and it shows a
deep human connection with nature. The Moorish influence is evident
in the multitude of terraced stonewalled croplands covering the mountain
edges. The land has been utilized to its best capacity, serving as
fertile ground for almond and cherry trees, which look most spectacular
at blossoming time.
The banks of the ravines
are decorated, with carobs, kermes oak, dwarf palms and oleanders.
The impressive mountain shapes contrast with the Mediterranean
sea in the distance, on a clear day you may even be able to see
the island of Ibiza.
The mountains here are far greener than other surrounding ones,
due to the abundance of underground water springs and good use
of the terrain for cultivation.
